Haiku Challenge
The ANZSGM 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting (Sydney) is pleased to invite delegates to participate in a Haiku Challenge.
From the morning of Wednesday 11 June until Midday Thursday 12 June submit a haiku based on a talk or abstract from the 2025 Annual Scientific Meeting for a chance to be published in the Australasian Journal of Ageing.
What is a haiku?
Example
"Learning and laughter
Beside the harbour of lights.
Welcome to Sydney."
A haiku is a traditional Japanese form of small poetry, that has also been popularised in other languages. Although there are many nuances to this art, to keep things simple, a Haiku for this challenge will have three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the final line.
Your poems can be submitted through a google form available in the Conference App. You will be asked to include the title of the talk or abstract that inspired your poem.
The poems will be judged by Dr Sue Ogle (Geriatrician, poet, author, and Editor of Reflections in the Australian Journal on Ageing), and Judith Beveridge (multi award winning poet, author and academic). Finalists will receive a reading at the Conference Dinner and the winner will be published in Reflections in the Australasian Journal on Ageing.
