Prof Maria Eriksdotter

Professor Maria Eriksdotter, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Geriatrics at Karolinska Institutet (KI) since 2010 and a Senior Consultant in Geriatrics at Karolinska University Hospital Huddinge, and a former Dean of KI. After graduation and obtaining her doctorate, she worked as a full-time geriatrician between 1989 to 2003 including a period being the director of the memory outpatients clinic. From 2003 to 2010 she worked as a senior lecturer at KI and later as a Professor and consulting at the hospital. Between 2013-2018 she was Head of the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) - one of the largest departments at KI. Between 2019-2023 she held the position as Dean of KI. Between 2005-2010 she was the deputy director of the national research network Swedish Brain Power and since 2010 a scientific consultant on geriatric medicine for the National Board of Health and Welfare. Professor Eriksdotter is the founder and the director of the Swedish national quality registry on cognitive/dementia disorders (SveDem, www.svedem.se) in which national quality indicators of diagnostics, treatment and dementia care can be followed.

Professor Eriksdotter's research focus is on pharmacological treatment in Alzheimer’s disease and factors that affect progress and survival based on data from the world's largest quality registry ie SveDem, and she has published > 300 research and related works on dementia.
